Blackpool Property For Sale and Rent
Blackpool; If there is a form of holiday entertainment that Blackpool
cannot provide it is difficult to think of.
The town stretches along the Lancashire coast with a
resident population annually swollen by the hordes of people lured to this
metropolis of pleasure packed with all the elements of a vast
fun-fair. Yet beside the strident and overcrowded
entertainments, there is another and a quieter Blackpool - a
resort of spacious parks and bowling greens for those who prefer
their recreation in a more individual form.
The town claims to have everything for holidays,
from old-style tram rides along the sea-front to remedial and
sauna baths. It also has the Grundy Art Gallery, in Queen
Street, with a permanent collection of 19th- and 20th-cent.
British artists. The tower is Blackpool's great landmark. This
showpiece and engineering feat is well worth inspection. Except
in windy weather, the lift carries passengers to a height of 518
ft for the breathtaking view from the top. Housed in the tower
is a fine aquarium, a zoo, a circus, a ballroom and the
well-known organ. The promenade runs for 7 m. and most of it is
traversed by the trams. Stanley Park has Italian-style gardens,
a huge boating lake, and bowls, tennis and golf.
Blackpool's rose garden displays some 30,000 blooms, and in the conservatories is a
"living museum" of 700 species of chrysanthemum. Blackpool has 26 municipal
bowling greens, two 18-hole golf courses, 16 children's playgrounds, three
piers, a winter garden and a waxworks. Among its annual events are the
Lancashire Agricultural Society show, the veteran car run from Manchester, and
the "milk race" (the cycling tour of Britain). The famous illuminations are a
great attraction from early September to late October, when 6 m. of promenade,
the tower and the pleasure beach are lit up. Spectators can also travel in the
illuminated trams.
