The first church at Cheadle
was built in about 1200 but burnt
down in 1520. Only a few fragments of
glass and two old monuments remained for incorporation in the 16th-cent.
rebuilding, but the 16-windowed clerestory
lighting the nave, with its two
chapels, and the three stone monuments of knights in armour, together with the many sculptured figures projecting from the exterior are points of unusual
interest.
Moseley Old Hall, at the end of Cuthbert Road off Stockport Road, is a
half-timbered building bearing the date 1666. It has been much restored
in recent times, although a large fire-place and part of a staircase remain
unchanged. |
