Dornoch is
off the A9 in the north of Scotland, it is about 45 miles north of Inverness and
part of The
Tain Peninsula which forms the boundary of Easter Ross with two routes crossing
it, the A836 heading directly north to Bonar Bridge or the more travelled A9
across the new Dornoch Bridge, Here you will find the
internationally renowned Royal Dornoch Golf Course - ranked 13th in the world's
top 100,Since 1616 golfers have enjoyed the
beauty of Highland scenery while testing their
skills on the Championship Course. In the last
century the Club added an additional links with
a magical mixture in a vision of natural beauty
and respectively 18 holes each with character
and challenge.

The Glenmorangie
Distillery can be found here producing the best selling malt whisky in Scotland.
Here you will find The Glenmorangie Visitor Centre it is open throughout the
year. The name means 'Glen of Tranquillity' better make sure you are booked in
for the night to appreciate the whole experience. Attractions
here are the 13th century Dornoch Cathedral, The Dornoch Jail and the craft
centre, The Tain and District
Museum in Castle Brae, The Tollbooth with a most distinctive piece of
architecture, a sixteenth century tower with an equally ancient bell,
The Witch's Stone,
erected to commemorate the burning of the last witch in Scotland and a cross
slab standing 9ft (3m) tall and occupying a field above the village. It was
erected in memory of three Norse princesses, who were shipwrecked near here, Between Dornoch
and Golspie lies Loch Fleet a Scottish Wildlife Trust Reserve home to seals,
ducks and wading birds. The
Dornoch is an
Edwardian town pleasantly elegant, rather refined community in a setting that
would be equally fitting in Somerset or the Cotswolds. At its centre is the
compact but engaging form of Dornoch Cathedral, surrounded by grass and trees.
The town became a bishopric in 1224, and is one of the most welcoming here you
will find
excellent beaches
and caves. |
