DRUMNADROCHIT Invernesshire
Drumnadrochit is an important tourist centre on the west side of Loch
Ness some 14 miles from Inverness at the foot of Glen Urquhart and near its junction with
the hill road by Glen Convinth to Beauly. The road up Glen
Urquhart goes through picturesque country to Strath Glass, passing near the
Corrimony megalithic
chambered cairn. Urquhart Castle, one of the
largest in Scotland, on the shore of
Loch Ness and familiar to all who watch for 'the Monster', played a great part in Scottish history from the invasion of
Edward I to the Jacobite Rising of 1689: it is in the
care of the Department of the Environment. This is fine place for walkers, climbers,
pony-trekkers, anglers, and for those
who just wish to enjoy the splendid scenery.
