The university town of Dumfries has seen large increases in the value of property in recent years along with the development of housing and commercial properties.
The town has a small shopping centre along with a parade of shops in a mainly pedestrian area.
There is a commercial park on the outskirts of the town and also several large supermarkets.
Dumfries
straddles the river Nith close to the borders of England and the
city of Carlisle. The town boasts a large hospital with A&E which
services Dumfries & Galloway area. There is a university situated
on the grounds of the old psychiatric hospital at Crichton where
the buildings have been sympathetically restored & the grounds
offer a lovely calm setting of parkland. The town is still
probably best known for its relationship with Scotland's bard
Robert Burns who's influence is
everywhere including his mausoleum. The town
has a shopping centre and high street with most of the usual
outlets. Recently there has been a large amount of new development
around the town including houses and apartments.
