Ellon Information
With the discovery of oil, Ellon has expanded rapidly over the last two decades and has developed a modern infrastructure for business development and its expanding population. The
river and the woodlands are important natural features and contribute much to the character and setting of the town.
Ellon is now mainly a feeder town to Aberdeen and has a good link
to the City of Aberdeen via the A90 although the town has been a settlement for hundreds of years.
It straddles the Ythan pronounced eye-than river, which is one of very few undeveloped river estuaries
on the eastern coast of Scotland.
The town has access to three primary schools
- Ellon Primary School
- Auchterellon Primary School
- Meiklemill Primary School
Ellon benefits from a community centre, which also includes a swimming pool and café. Ellon also has
one of north-east Scotlands's youth groups, which is centred around the Ythan Centre, a building dedicated to serving the needs of Ellon's teenage population.
