Findhorn in Moray a village on the E. side of the sandy Findhorn Bay faces the Moray Firth. It was once the chief port of Moray and the centre of a big fishing industry. It is now a holiday resort with sandy beaches and fine facilities for sailing. This is the third village to bear the name of Findhorn in this district. The earlier ones were built to the
northwest. and were overwhelmed by disaster. The first was obliterated by sand following the
extraordinary fate of culbin just across the bay. The second village of Findhorn was destroyed by a great flood in 1701.This place however, is now best known internationally for its Findhorn Foundation, a community which by 1975 had grown to 200 people from all walks of life, and of any or no creed, from the concept
of Peter and Eileen Caddy, who came here in 1962 and, through 'inner guidance' received and written down by Mrs Caddy in particular, proceeded to create fertility out of barren sand dunes. Their
vegetable-growing success became almost legendary and much publicized, but now the community, which also accepts paying guests, has its own studio sheds for pottery, weaving and candle-making, a
recording studio producing tapes, a printing and binding department and a produce shop. The secret of the Foundation is said to be 'attunement' to natural sources and divine inspiration |
