FRASERBURGH Aberdeenshire
A castle converted in to a light house forms the centre in which Fraserburgh is built.
Kinnairds Head was the hill of watch, from which Alexander Fraser, the 7th Laird of Philorth kept an eye on his creation, in1546 a charter was granted
to the Laird stating for the convenience of his neighbours he had built a harbour upon the shore in which ships overtaken by storms may be able to take refuge, we erect the town of
Faithlie in to a free burg of Barony.
At that time there was no castle, it was built by his grandson in 1569, and continued to erect buildings and fine streets, three more charters were to follow the
last refers to the town called Fraserburgh and empowers Fraser to build and endow a university.
The castle its self has been changed completely from its original structure apart from the wine tower that is virtually unaltered, that makes this the oldest house
in Fraserburgh dating from the 16th century.
