The traveller will find here all that is of interest in the larger island of Lewis and much, much more. Exploring anywhere within Bernera is
irresistible a pleasure difficult to restrain from, with historical sites, constantly changing views with only gentle hills to climb and a Sheltered beach with perfect white sands, Rocky shores, sea
lochs, Freshwater lochs with good trout fishing, a Restored Norse mill, Standing stones/dune, Archaeology including Dun Bharabhat Two historical sites, a walk down the west coast has been way-marked.
The most recent addition to the attractions is the excavation of an Iron Age village and a Reconstructed Iron Age house, This is open to visitors Tuesdays - Saturdays from 12 noon - 4pm, the lovely
beach is at Bostadh with Bernera Riot Cairn the Lobster Pond, the wildlife here is genuine as they are surprising you will find seals, otters, dolphins, eagles, gannets, sea and land birds.
There are about 300 people on the Island the focal point being the Community Centre and Museum. Throughout the summer season, the community runs a cafe where teas/coffees, fresh home-baking, snacks,
lunches and carry-out meals are available.
The Museum houses is wear all the records, photographs and archives of the local history group are kept encouraging the curious visitor a unique
experience into the Island’s community way of life including the Lobster Fishing which has sustained the people of Bernera for many generations.
The inhabitants of Bernera enjoy the Ceilidhs and dances organised throughout the year The Highland Dancers are especially popular with fine foods from
traditional local cuisine to Chinese Curry and Pasta meals then lively dancing to follow.
