Inverlochy Some 2 m. north east of Fort William and now joined to it, the village of Inverlochy combines strong historical associations with modern development. Its past is visible in the well-preserved 13th-cent. Castle of the Comyns.
It has a quadrangular wall and round-angle towers showing the characteristic long-bow slits of the period. The eventful history of the
Castle dates from the War of Independence, reaching its climax over three centuries later during Montrose's campaigns. Inverlochy was the scene of the great soldier-marquess's
astonishing victory over the Campbells in 1645.The.modern Inverlochy Castle is the centre of a cattle-ranching scheme started in the 1950s by Mr J.W. Hobbs, who developed 10,000 acres as the Great Glen Cattle Ranch. Before his death he sold it,
but cattle ranching continues here. In the 1930s a company producing aluminium developed a factory at Inverlochy in connection with the hydro-electric scheme at laggan. The same company produces ingots for further processing at the
Falkirk plant.
