Jura Property For Sale & Rent
Jura is one of the larger Inner Hebrides. separated from the mainland at Knapdale only by the Sound of Jura with its north part opposite crinan and its South end almost
joined to islay, is mountainous and 28 m. long but only 7 m. wide at its broadest. It is notable for the three Paps of Jura. a group of peaks all over 2.400 ft in the centre of the southern part they
are impressive on the island and for many miles around over the sea. .
Jura has only one road. running from Feolin ferry on the SW.. opposite port Askaig on Islay. down to the south then round and up
to the the coast through Craighousesr and other villages to Ardlussa (here there is an old pier). This road end is some 9 m. from the tip of Jura where the corryvreckan whirlpool may be seen and heard
(tide and wind being suitable), but it is a pleasant walk with wonderful views of the mainland of Argyll and. eventually, of the other islands.
On the west coast, which has never been settled.
there are fine raised beaches and caves. The only regular communication is by the Western Ferries frequent service from Kennacraig on West Loch Tarbert to Port Askaig and thence across
the narrow strait to Feolin. There are also air services to Islay. There is a hotel and other accommodation on the island.
