Kemnay 14 miles west of Aberdeen,
facing the bennachie hills, owed its existence to the granite industry, and most of the granite houses were built by the quarry workers, for themselves, in the 19th cent., but the former village has become a dormitory town for Aberdeen with an influx of some 1,000 families, many of them occupying non-traditional Swedish-type timber
