Kilbirnie Information and History
Kilbirnie approximately four miles north of Dalry, has a thriving industrial background of yarn-processing, knitwear, thread, net manufacture and the important steel-rolling mill at Glengarnock, with potential for new factories. It has recently completed an indoor swimming pool. and has facilities for golf and other sports.
An object
of note in the town is the parish church, part of which dates back to the 15th cent. Like many another in the country, it is a 'laird's'
church, having been largely built by the Cunningham and Crawford families. The Crawford Gallery in carved oak is in the Renaissance style. Coats of arms were added in the early 18th cent. when the grandson of Crawford of Kilbirnie became the 1st Viscount Garnock.
