Lamington Property For Sale & Rent
Lamington is
situated in the county of Lanarkshire, a small village on the
west bank of the Clyde south west from
Tinto Hill is connected by tradition with William Wallace.
A little north of the
village there used to be Lamington Tower, popularly called 'Wallace's Tower' The
reason for this was a tradition surviving from the partly legendary
account of Wallace's life by the minstrel
'Blind Harry' According to this
tradition, Wallace's wife was Marion Bradfute, the heiress of Lamington.
Some authorities say that he was
never married. The matter of the Tower of
Lamington (or Wallace's Tower) need
no longer concern the visitor. A local factor destroyed it in 1780 to procure building material. Lamington Church
has a fine Norman arch and a bell dated 1647. |
