Lendalfoot Property For Sale and Rent
Lendalfoot is a small hamlet on the Carrick
shore some seven miles to the south of Girvan, where the
Lendal water enters the sea. It was at one time a haunt of smugglers, but has
latterly been supported by a few families of
inshore fishermen.
It is now a
miniature holiday resort with chalet summer-houses
nestling along the base of the hills, which at this point come close to the sea. Carleton Castle, a striking ruin,
which is perched on a rocky ridge
inland from the hamlet, and was the
ancestral home of the Cathcarts of Carleton, a family whose influence
in Ayrshire at one time rivalled that of the Kennedies. They were extensive landowners,
being at one time Lairds of
killochan, and at Auchendrane near
Ayr.
