A sea port town on the Ythan estuary some seven furlongs from the sea, the Ythan estuary was the largest on the Aberdeen coast.
Today the estuary caters more for
the fishing with the Ythan sea trout being world famous. The University of Aberdeen has a field station here were students come to study, the marshes and meandering reeds are full of
wild life, and raised beaches on three levels command some of the most abundant estuarine life, with sand dunes on the north side in the sands of Forvie and prehistoric sites were
prehistoric man made tools made from the flint found around here called flint-Knapping.
