Peterhead

Even with the decline of the fishing industry in Peterhead, it is still important to the town.

The town grew again after North Sea oil was discovered  with Peterhead becoming a important part of the oil  industry , with  the completion of the nearby St Fergus gas terminal., considerable land holdings were allocated for industrial development. Rrecently the town has suffered from several high profile company closures and is facing a number of pressures, including Common Fisheries Policy reforms and uncertainty over the future of Peterhead prison one of Scotland's high security prisons. The Peterhead Project initiative with the Aberdeenshire Council, and the Scottish Enterprise Grampian, Communities, Scotland commerce and community representatives, And the Wellbank, is assisting business to develop environmental improvements. Peterhead Bay Authority plan to extend the northern breakwater to stimulate development  The harbours, maritime heritage is the town's  recent initiative include investments in the Peterhead Bay area, which have included the berthing of cruise ships in the harbour. A number of projects are planned for Peterhead including  the tourism strategy development, measures to improve the town's attractions to stimulate the traveller where exceptional landscapes and coastlines merge, Peterhead will develop it’s own physical attractiveness, leading to improved marketing and promotion, for commercial premises, shops restaurants, bars and night clubs.

 

Peterhead town centre and the local school. 2 Minutes walk from beginning of harbour. Peterhead town centre contains great shops including Argos, W H Smith, Woolworths, Dorothy Perkins/Burtons, New Look, Clinton Cards, bakers, a great butchers, sports shops, many banks/building socities including TSB, Abbey, Clydsedale, Royal Bank Of Scotland and many takeaways including Zanres fish and chips. There is a library, a leisure centre, and the supermarkets Morrisons, Asda and Lidl's and will be building a new larger store there soon. DIY stores include a newly opened B & Q, Focus and Peterhead Hardware.
